The SmartThings app lets you control your fridge from anywhere and sends notifications to your phone when it's open or closed. You can create schedules, set the temperature and even set reminders. SmartThings was one of the founding members of the Home Connectivity Alliance. This alliance is working to make major home appliances made by different manufacturers interoperable. In the future you could control your Samsung washer/dryer, Electrolux oven, and LG TV from the same application. The touchscreen can also be used to organize your food and recipes, with the option to add ingredients directly from the recipe app and also see what's in your fridge through internal cameras. You can also make an inventory list of items on the go and keep track of foods to see when they'll expire. You can even use an app for recipes that will provide instructions as you cook. This is the second generation of Family Hub fridges and Samsung says it's spent a year perfecting them based on customer feedback. You can now create distinct profiles for every family member so that they can personalize the information and apps they can access. It's not as good as having Alexa integration built into your fridge but it's an improvement on the previous model. Family Hub is not only a platform for managing entertainment and food but also controls Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be used to control Matter-compatible devices such as lights plugs, locks, and lights. Samsung's fridge is only a few years old and while it still has plenty of features however, its touchscreen capabilities aren't something that many people would consider to be essential. They're more fun and semi-frivolous accessories than anything else. It could change when more software updates are released, but for the moment these models are ideally for those who need the most comprehensive connected fridge they can get. If you aren't one of those, you could choose a lower-cost model without the Family Hub to save some cash. If you own a variety of smart home appliances that you want to control with one screen, or if you are awed by the idea of having a fridge equipped with a large touchscreen, it might be worth the investment.
